Another successful TV auction has concluded and thanks to all who donated, the Bridgewater Academy Lions raised $9769 for the Massachusetts Lions Eye Research Foundation (MLERF). Auction chair Theresa Tibert writes:

I’d like to thank all of the businesses who donated and sponsored, all of the audience members who bid on items, the staff at BTV-Cable 9, and of course all of the Lions and Leos who worked so hard for this worthy cause!!

Winners can pick up the prizes at the BTV studio (80 Spring Street) during any of the following times:

Monday (11/12/07) 6pm-9pm
Tuesday (11/13/07) 9am-noon and 3pm-6pm
Friday (11/16/07) 8am-noon

Three local young people have been selected to receive the Lions Young Leaders in Service Awards, presented by the District 33S Youth Outreach Coordinator and Lions Clubs International.
Designed to encourage youth to serve in their community, the awards are presented to young people who complete 50 or 100 hours of community service in a 12-month period. The local Lions Young Leaders in Service Awards recipients are:

Gold Seal Awards for 100 Hours of Service
Peter Bertelli of Middleboro

Silver Seal Awards for 50 Hours of Service
Brian Davis of Bridgewater
Michael Shalginewicz of Bridgewater

The awards will be presented during the 15th Annual Bridgewater Academy Lions Club Cable Auction, on November 11th, at 5:00PM on BTV9. Each recipient will receive a letter and certificate from the President of Lions Clubs International.
“Lions believe it is important for young people to experience the rewards of helping their community,” says District 33S Youth Outreach Coordinator Martin Middleton. “Young people who volunteer become adults who serve, and service is the primary focus of Lions clubs. In fact, ‘We Serve’ is our motto.”
The Greater Bridgewater Leos Club worked with the Bridgewater Academy Lions Club to recruit participants and coordinate the award application process. Bridgewater Academy Lions Club extends appreciation to the adult leader who assisted with the awards program: Sharon Audette.

Lion Theresa Tibert, Auction Chairperson writes:

The Bridgewater Academy Lions Club 15th Annual Cable Auction will be held on Sunday, November 11, 2007. We’ll be on air from 5pm until approximately 10:30pm. All of the proceeds will benefit the Massachusetts Lions Eye Research Fund (MLERF). Please watch the auction on BTV-9 and bid on items from the comfort of your own home. Maybe you could do some holiday shopping? Maybe you’ll splurge on something great for yourself? Whatever you choose to bid on, please remember to bid high and bid early so you don’t lose out on an item that you have to have! The phone number to place a bid is (508) 279-6367.
Items can be picked up at the rear door of the BTV-9 Studios, 80 Spring Street, immediately after the auction - from 10:30pm to 11pm. We’ll also have pick up times on Monday, November 12 (6pm-9pm), Tuesday, November 13 (9am-noon and 3pm-6pm), and Friday, November 16 (8am-noon).
Thanks very much for participating and helping us to raise funds for this worthwhile cause!!

Sounds like it will be a lot of fun. Don’t miss out!

Yikes! I had planned on doing a few more updates than I have up till now. There has been lots of activity going on behind the scenes here at bridgewaterlions.org:

  • There is now a contact form for people who are interested in getting more information about Lions.
  • I finally got the caching software installed, so pages should be displaying MUCH faster now.
  • I’ve decided to re-enable comments. I have all the anti-spam protection in place so it should be OK. I’ll be keeping an eye on it.
  • Information has been posted about all of the clubs here in Bridgewater.

So now that all that administrivia is out of the way, I can get back to posting useful info about the Lions clubs of Bridgewater. More updates to follow soon!

I’m officially biting the bullet today and taking the new site live.  There may still be a few tweaks as time goes by, but there’s no reason not to go live, so… here it is!
