Bridgewater Community Lions
The Bridgewater Community Lions Club is the “new kid on the block.” For more than a year, the founders of the newly forming club have been talking with potential members about joining Lions. A recurring theme in many of these conversations was that the current club offerings do not meet the needs of some prospective
new members.
Many of the people interested in becoming Lions did not want to join a club comprised of only men or only women; they wanted to join a club along with their spouse or partner. Additionally, others said they wanted their children to learn the value of community service and become involved with Lions. These needs are being addressed with the formation Bridgewater Community Lions Club. The club is being organized around the concept of having families (including their children) involved in the meetings and activities of the club.
Volunteering together as a family provides quality family time, strengthens family communication, and provides opportunities for family members to be role models, while simultaneously allowing families to make significant contributions to the community. The key element of “families” is that families define themselves. “Family” volunteers may/could include:
- a nuclear family
- parents and children
- an extended family including aunts, uncles, cousins, etc.
- an adult with his/her senior parents
- a husband and wife
- a retired couple
- an adult guardian and child
- foster families
- a non custodial parent and child
- a single parent and child(ren)
- adult siblings
- children and grandparents
- a group unrelated by blood who is living together
- multiple children from the same family
The club is actively recruiting new members and plans to hold its charter night sometime in the spring of 2008. If you’re interested in being a part of the new club, call 508-697-6939 or fill out our contact form.
